DML Morning Briefing: Tues. Oct. 27
By Team DML
Today is October 27 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch.
1 – CNN, MSNBC skip historic Senate vote confirming Amy Coney Barrett to Supreme Court
The two liberal news networks chose not to air the historic vote in the Senate that confirmed Amy Coney Barrett as the 115th justice and only the fifth woman to the Supreme Court. The vote resulted in 52-48 with Maine Sen. Susan Collins as the sole Republican to join Democrats in opposition.
Both networks largely covered Barrett’s confirmation through the prism of the coronavirus outbreak with CNN anchors shaming the Trump administration for hosting a celebration at the White House following the previous event commemorating Barrett’s nomination, which has been widely referred to as a super-spreader based on the high number of attendees who were later diagnosed with the virus.
MSNBC host Chris Hayes declared that 225,000 Americans are dead and not everyone is in a “celebratory mood” like President Trump is.
While Fox News also covered the White House ceremony marking Barrett’s confirmation uninterrupted, MSNBC cut away almost immediately after a brief mention and CNN cut away moments later, only to jump in for Barrett’s speech.
CNN was also mocked for its onscreen graphic during its coverage of the ceremony that read, “TRUMP SUPREME CT NOMINEE ABOUT TO BE SWORN IN AT WHAT ANOTHER POTENTIAL SUPERSPREADER EVENT.”
DML: They (CNN and MSNBC) can ignore the facts but the facts won’t go away.
2 – A new poll finds Joe Biden stretching his lead over President Trump in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania as late-breaking undecided voters say they intend to back the Democratic presidential nominee.
The latest survey of likely voters in the three former “blue wall” states from the Elections Research Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison finds Biden nearly doubling his lead in each state compared to last month.
Crucially, Biden is above the 50 percent mark in all three states, while Trump remains mired in the low to mid-40s.
- Michigan, Biden leads by 10 points, 52 to 42. Five percent of voters remain undecided. The same poll from September found Biden with a 6-point advantage.
- Wisconsin finds Biden leading 53 to 44, with 3 percent undecided. Biden’s 9-point advantage is up from 4 points in September.
- Pennsylvania, Biden leads 52 to 44, with 3 percent undecided. Biden has grown his lead from 4 points in September to 8 points now.
DML: Polls said Hillary would win. I say don’t worry.
3 – Fox News put the United States Postal Service to the test ahead of the 2020 elections
From Fox News: As part of a special investigation, senior correspondent Eric Shawn, the I-Unit and others sent 500 envelopes from more than 50 locations throughout the country to test how quickly they traveled between addresses, and to a single destination in New York.
A little more than two percent failed to reach their destinations, including nine envelopes that have not been delivered more than a month later.
Fox kept track of exactly 500 envelopes that were sent by producers in the New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and Dallas metro areas. Out of that 500, 11 failed to reach their destinations. Two were returned to sender, and the other nine yet to arrive.
In each city, 100 envelopes were mailed from a variety of addresses.
Out of the 100 envelopes sent by producers in each metro area, 20 were addressed to a post office box in lower Manhattan that was monitored daily. The other 80 were sent to a single destination in each city that was also monitored.
In New York, envelopes were mailed from locations within almost 70 miles of the destination. Delivery times there ranged from two to five days, and in many cases it was the envelopes traveling the shortest distances that took the longest amount of time to travel.
Some of the mail sent from one New York borough to another took just as long or longer to arrive than the envelopes sent to New York from Los Angeles.
The envelopes sent to New York from California ironically traveled the greatest cross-country distance of all of the test ballots, but arrived in the least amount of time of any in that same group.
DML: The mail-in voting BS may end up causing havoc in the streets if this election has no winner on Tuesday evening.
4 – Massive Percentage of Illegal Aliens in Federal Jails Convicted of Non-Immigration Crimes
The U.S. government spent at least $162 million last year to incarcerate tens of thousands of criminal illegal immigrants for committing crimes that include rape, murder, kidnapping and terrorism. The offenders were imprisoned by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), which confirm that 94% of aliens jailed in 2019 were unlawfully present in the U.S. The alarming data was recently disclosed in a new report issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which disclose that nearly 70% of known or suspected aliens in BOP custody last year had been convicted of a non-immigration related offense and 39% of known or suspected aliens in USMS custody committed a non-immigration related crime.
The new report states that 51,074 known or suspected aliens were in DOJ custody in 2019, with the majority (27,494) in BOP facilities throughout the country and 23,580 in USMS custody at various institutions. The BOP operates 122 prisons nationwide while the USMS houses detainees in federal, state, local and private jails. More than half of the 51,074 were confirmed by ICE to have orders of removal. More than 28,500 of the aliens in BOP custody committed fraud and 1,147 weapons offenses, according to stats provided by the DOJ and DHS. Over 1,000 illegal immigrants jailed by the BOP carried out racketeering and continuing criminal enterprise offenses such as murder for hire and 535 committed sex crimes that include production or distribution of child pornography. Around 1,028 aliens executed serious felonies such as kidnapping, murder, terrorism, rape and extortion, the report states. More than half of the USMS arrestees committed drug offenses with the rest incarcerated for immigration crimes, fraud, weapons violations, sex offenses and racketeering. Nearly 1,000 of the illegal aliens jailed by USMS carried out serious felonies such as murder, rape, terrorism, and kidnapping.
Under the Obama administration this type of pertinent information relating to illegal immigration was essentially ignored, but President Donald Trump issued an Executive Order in 2017 that, among other things, forces USMS and BOP to provide Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with data on a quarterly basis regarding inmates and detainees identified as foreign-born during their criminal case process.
DML: Biden wants these people in the USA. Many will get amnesty.
5 – Protests erupt across Philly over death of man with knife, cop mowed down by truck, police cars burned, at least 30 cops injured
The fatal police shooting of a Black man allegedly armed with a knife in the western side of Philadelphia sparked violent protests overnight, with at least 30 officers reported injured early Tuesday – including one sergeant who was reportedly struck by a pick-up truck.
Hundreds of people took to the streets to protest the Monday afternoon shooting of 27-year-old Walter Wallace, calling it another example of police officers killing a Black man. Demonstrators marched to a city police station while officers lined up behind metal barricades.
The demonstrations quickly turned violent as some protesters were seen throwing objects at officers while at least one police vehicle was set on fire.
Cops cars and dumpsters were set on fire as police struggled to contain the crowds. More than a dozen officers, many with batons in hand, formed a line as they ran down 52nd Street chasing protesters away from the main thoroughfare. The crowd largely dispersed then.
DML: Do these people not bring it upon themselves?
6 – Kushner: Black Americans have to ‘want to be successful’
White House senior adviser Jared Kushner said Monday that in order for the president’s policies to be most effective, Black Americans must want to succeed.
“One thing we’ve seen in a lot of the Black community, which is mostly Democrat, is that President Trump’s policies are the policies that can help people break out of the problems that they’re complaining about,” Kushner, who is Trump’s son-in-law, said during a Fox News interview. “But he can’t want them to be successful more than they want to be successful.”
“What you’re seeing throughout the country now is a groundswell of support in the Black community because they’re realizing that all the different bad things that the media and the Democrats have said about President Trump are not true and so they’re seeing that he’s actually delivered,” Kushner added.
Kushner is being slammed by Democrats, who say he implied that Black Americans do not want to be successful.
DML: I don’t often agree with Jared but he’s 100% right.
