Will Williams (50)

Alright, here we have Cliffton Williams, aka Captain Will. And what can I say other than this is another dude with zero shot at winning. Winning Big Brother is just something older people can’t do. Will is 50 years old, which means he is entering the house at a massive disadvantage.

I guess this is where I’ll talk about agism in Big Brother because that’s kind of what it boils down to. Not intentional at all. I know many older players who are extremely well-liked and really amazing people. Nobody dislikes our boy Kevin as he is incredibly charming, chill, and all the things you can want in a houseguest. However, despite being carried to the end, he never had a chance at the final prize because there is always that disconnect between older and younger people.

I have been blogging this show for about 12 years now, and when I started, I was younger than only two previous winners (Dick and Boogie). In fact, if my stats are correct, Dick is the last person over the age of 30 to win the show – and that happened in BB8. He was 44 at the time, and Boogie won the previous season at 36. Note – Derrick and Kaycee were both 30 when they won. Yes, Derrick, the guy who talked like he was 70 and had 10 grandkids with a great grandkid on the way was actually just 30.

Anyway, when I started, I felt like older people still had a shot, but as I got older myself, I am noticing the disconnect more and more. No matter how cool you are (and I am super cool!), I would never have the same connection to 20-somethings that others in their 20s have.

So if Captain Will is indeed a fun player to watch, we can all hope he makes it as far as possible, but I wouldn’t be dropping any bets on him winning.
